Starting Monday, July 21st, I will be challenging myself to a sugar-free life for three full weeks. I'm doing this in order to hopefully 1. reduce my sugar cravings (which have gotten way out of control) 2. retrain my body and mind to use its natural energy and not rely upon sugar for energy or daily pick-me-ups, and finally 3. to live an overall healthier life. Plain and Simple.
I guess I'll start off by admitting that I love sweets, & like most other women, I get severe cravings. I'm not talkin' about monthly craving-business--but weekly, daily, and even in between meals type of cravings for sugary goodness that often feels uncontrollable. I can eat something sweet in or with every meal and still be ready for more sweets afterward. Despite my sugar indulging habit, you should know that I'm a healthy, active, and ingredient-conscious kind of person. I work out on the regular, I'm careful with what I eat, and I'm fit. However, I know I give in to my body's sugar cravings way more than I should, in fact, that's one of the reasons why I think I haven't been able to shed the pounds I've been wanting to shed.
In preparation for this detox, I will be journaling (now, before I start), during the detox, and after. This Saturday, a friend of mine who decided she's gonna do this with me (Yeah Danisia!) and I are going food shopping for foods that we're gonna need for the next 3 weeks. Stuff like fruits, veggies, wheats/grains, meat/chicken, sugar free drinks and much more. We basically need to undo and refill our refrigerators and cabinets with things we're gonna be able to eat throughout this detox. Oh, & you should know that I will not be eating/drinking any substance that contains refined sugars or using any kind of sweeteners--no splenda, no equal, no brown sugar, NADA. lol. I can, on the other hand, have natural sugars from fruits and some juices, but I have to stay away from concentrated beverages and processed foods which contain ridiculous amounts of High Fructose Corn Syrup...aka, my enemy. =P
I will be posting again soon about my fears and expectations, so please feel free to comment and ask questions if you'd like, I totally welcome it.
